See the infographic at the bottom of this article.

When searching for a UL Compliant labeling solution it can be nerve-wracking to commit, especially when your labels must pass a marking durability test. Thankfully, you can test the durability of any prospective label yourself in just a few minutes by following these steps.

What you’ll need:

  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Toothbrush
  • Timer
  1. Immerse your label in isopropyl alcohol for 3 minutes.
  2. Remove the label from the alcohol. Then, use a toothbrush to scrub the impression 10 times.
  3. Repeat steps a-b twice more for a total of 3 cycles.
  4. Review the label impression for degradation.

If the label impression did not fade or scratch off, it has passed the marking durability test and may be suitable for your application. For more information on compliance and the marking durability test, see this article on the UL website.
